As some of you will know, Jamaica is a place that is very close to my heart, being my late husband’s heritage and somewhere I have travelled to and stayed many times with my mother in law.
As a Jamaican, Jamaica has ALOT more work to do. First, like purging toxic mindsets and ruling that off as tradition and culture—1 without that, these steps are frivolous. Sex based violence in the West Indies is done by males and highly internalized by women.
It took me leaving Jamaica to realize the dept of the rape culture that permeates the Jamaican mindset. Its in every facet of our cculture, sadly. It will take educating a new generation and a change, a change in not just policy. The police does not see domestic violence as "their business" to address. So who then do women call out to. Rape against babies are largely unpunished or even reported. Its just an unfortunate event that happens, and everyone continues with their life. There is so much to be said on this topic. Tragically, Jamaica is not unique.

Thank-you for your comment Kasia. It is true. The tradition and misogyny will be hard to break.
