Welcome to 'No More Walking on Eggshells', a blog and newsletter about Domestic Abuse and Violence. For the last 24 years I have worked in the field of domestic abuse. Starting out as a volunteer for a local refuge service, I went on to secure a full time job for the same service.
I joined the Women’s Aid Federation of England, board of trustees in 2000 and went on to become the Vice Chair in 2002. Also in 2000, I was involved in the writing of a book called ‘Getting Out’ which tells the stories of several English and American women who experienced domestic abuse and how they escaped those relationships.
I went to London to work in 2004 where I developed and managed the first IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advocate) service in Westminster in London. I was the Vice Chair of the Westminster Domestic Violence Forum and Chair of the forum’s Legal Issues sub group and was instrumental in campaigning for the first Domestic Violence Court in Westminster.
I specialise in survivor consultation and intervention, risk assessment, facilitation of The Freedom Programme and Multi-Agency training. I have also trained student social workers and given supervision to other professionals who work with women who have/are experiencing Domestic Abuse. I have extensive experience of delivering consultation to Social Workers and Child Protection Chairpersons. I am a qualified IDVA and sat on the Westminster MARAC panel for 14 years. I am an accomplished public speaker and have been involved in media work including being on television, radio and writing numerous newspaper and magazine articles. I has also been an expert witness in criminal and civil courts of law.
From 2009, I worked for The City of Westminster Council. Until 2016 I was the Senior Domestic Abuse Consultant for the ground breaking ‘Family Recovery Programme’. In 2016 I became the Domestic Abuse Consultant for the Integrated Early Help Service at the council.
In January 2021, I embarked on the next chapter of my career by joining the award winning NCDV (National Centre for Domestic Violence). Here, I am the ‘Head of Partnerships and Development for Domestic Abuse Services’.
I was awarded the ‘Survivor of the Year” Award in 2012 by The Women’s Aid Federation of England in partnership with Avon and Marie Claire magazine. I was also nominated and shortlisted for the Emma Humphreys Memorial Prize in 2015 for my services to women experiencing domestic abuse.
In September 2020 I also took the next step of incorporating my passion and commitment and launched Sharon Bryan Consultancy Community Interest Company. I manage this in my own time and fundraise locally and nationally to be able to provide The Freedom Programme to women who have or who still are experiencing domestic abuse. I also work hard to raise awareness of domestic abuse, locally, nationally and globally.
I am a survivor of domestic abuse.
To be able to offer interested people, through my writing, my perceptions and thoughts on domestic abuse, and also give online advise and information where I can by using this platform, I hope that I can make a difference to the millions of people experiencing domestic violence and abuse and also raise some much needed funds to continue facilitating The Freedom Programme and giving support, guidance and advocacy to victims and survivors of domestic abuse, wherever they are in the world. is a survivor of domestic abuse.
